Of all the false gods of the nations, their names are mentioned, such as Chemosh, god the Moabites, Molech, god of the Ammonites, Ashtoreth, goddess of the Sidonians (1 Kings 11:5-7), Nisroch, god of Assyria (Isa 37:38), the Baals, gods of the Canaanites (1 Kings 18:18, 19), Rimmon, god of Syria (2 Kings 5:18), but of "the only true God" (John 17:3), whose name is Jehovah (see Isa 12:2, KJV), he remains nameless, being called only by titles such as "the Lord God", or "God" or "Lord" (or "Father") in many Bible translations, despite his name יהוה in Hebrew being in the Hebrew Scriptures (commonly but inaccurately called "the Old Testament") almost 7,000 times, while the titles of "God" and "Lord" combined are in the Bible some 5,000 times.
At Genesis 15:2, Abraham, a man many Bible readers are aware of, talks to Jehovah through a vision, calling him "Sovereign Lord Jehovah". When David talked to Jehovah's representative angel, who spoke for Jehovah at 2 Samuel 7, David called him "Sovereign Lord Jehovah" seven times when Jehovah made the Davidic covenant with him to "establish the throne of his kingdom forever" (2 Sam 7:13), in which through his lineage would come the promised Messiah.
In the Bible "book" of Ezekiel, the words "Sovereign Lord Jehovah" is used over 200 times by Ezekiel. So, it is painfully obvious why so few REALLY know Jehovah, because the religions of Christendom have hid Jehovah's name behind titles of "God" and "Lord", as for example at Jeremiah 23: "I (Jehovah) have heard the prophets who are prophesying lies in my name say, ‘I had a dream ! I had a dream !’ How long will this continue in the heart of the prophets, to prophesy lies ? They are prophets of the deceit of their own heart. They intend to make my people FORGET my name by the dreams they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot my name because of Baʹal."(Jer 23:25-27)
On the other hand, loyal servants of Jehovah knew him personally by name, using it freely, from the first "book" in the Bible, Genesis, to its last "book", Revelation. For example, whenever a reader of the Bible comes across the words "the Lord God" (as at Rev 22:5, KJV), it is a dead giveaway that originally it read "Jehovah God", for two titles placed together, "Lord God", is a clue that the name Jehovah was replaced with "Lord", for who uses two titles together as a name for someone, as for example, Leader President ? Rather, you say "President So and So", the name of the leader of a nation or university, etc.
So, until a person comes to know, use and love the NAME of Jehovah, becoming obedient to the PERSON of Jehovah, they CANNOT intimately "know" him, as Jesus said in his prayer to Jehovah concerning the apostate nation of Israel: "Righteous Father, the world has, indeed, not come to know you (with the Jews hiding Jehovah's name behind the letters G-d), but I know you, and these have come to know that you sent me. I have made your name (of Jehovah) known to them and will make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them.”(John 17:25, 26)
Thus, Psalms 96 says: "Sing to Jehovah a new song. Sing to Jehovah, all the earth ! Sing to Jehovah; praise his name. Proclaim the good news of his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, His wonderful works among all the peoples. Jehovah is great and most worthy of praise. He is more awe-inspiring than all other gods. All the gods of the peoples are worthless gods, but Jehovah is the one who made the heavens……Give Jehovah the glory due his name; Bring a gift and come into his courtyards. Bow down to Jehovah in holy adornment; Tremble before him, all the earth !"(Ps 96:1-5, 7, 8)
What God is? God is invisible. God selectively, ununiformly and unmorally selects those he chooses for answered prayers. Like he helps you find your car keys, but then allows Ukraine. God benefits those whom "He" ordains to preach his message unless those preaching are preaching to an unreceptive audience. God is a primitive construct of people to control the gullible. The crazy thing is, it still works today after 10,000 years of human evolution. Why? Because simple minded, lazy people will look to God to answer questions that science has a difficult, but not impossible way of explaining.
