What I think is that, the Stories had happened but not in an exaggerated way as written in the gita and Mahabharata. Like flying things, etc.
Those were exaggerated by the writer's. And the writer added more knowledge and meaning to it so that reader can get wisdom, knowlege etc.
And I think some very smart people of that time write these things for the benefit of humanity.
Now no one knows if the Stories had happened or its just a made up story.
Doesn't Krishna say that after transforming into his multi-armed form?
P.S Sanskrit is the most interesting language I've heard spoken. It sounds like it has sounds from every language from asian group (korean, chinese, japanese etc..), from romantic languages, to indian continent (obviously) to African languages. Such a cool language.
