The astronauts sounded like three teenage boys who have been sworn to secrecy about something explosive and they’re trying to pull off a major deception. They’re terrible liars and wouldn’t have made good poker players.
Think about it this way, they landed on the moon 6 times, and had about 50 other prep missions leading up to that. Spent millions of dollars to do so. Didn't find anything there, apart from bunch of grey rocks.. On top of this, no other country successfully landed humans on the moon, no competition = territory secured. The race back to the moon doesn't sound all too thrilling when you take this into account.
