Wilder is possibly the worst boxing martial artist heavyweight champ of all time. He fought Fury 3 times. The 1st time, Fury had just come back from severe physical & mental health issues, resulting in massive weight loss & was out of the sport for 3 years. This! I believe, is the only reason the Wilder camp agreed to take on the fight. Wilder also had home advantage for all 3 fights & ref choice for first 2. The 2 times after the first fight Fury was back to his best & this resulted in the schooling we saw.
There was a whole scene of higher skilled boxers facing each other outside of the US Wilder scene. Wilder didn't engage with that scene until Fury. He still hasn't faced anyone else from that group. Which at one point included Klitschko and a younger Povetkin.
But, for a period of time, that group consisted of Klitschko, Povetkin, Whyte, Parker, Chisora, Joshua, Wallin & Fury who were all fighting each other to one degree or other.
Wilder was fighting bums. Padded out a deceptive record.
