Early during my career, I met with a witness who stormed the beaches of Normandy, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and rode the Queen Mary home. He had this incredible scrap book of black and white photographs that he somehow saved. Every one of them could have been a still from Saving Private Ryan. It was unreal. I could tell it was helpful for him to talk about his experience, and every photo he shared had a story to go along with it. We talked for a long time and I remember him saying near the end of our conversation the only reason he survived was, "No reason, I was just lucky."
My grandfather couldn’t watch it as well. Said he could smell it.
Wow…he had a grampa on Normandy D-day, and another storming beaches in the Pacific. Assuming he has this right, what a military history his family has. WONDERFUL family!.

I WATCH BAND OF BROTHERS WAY TOO OFTEN AND I THINK IT WAS VERY ACCURATE, LET ME EXPLAIN. I WASN'T THERE BUT I WAS IN THE ARMY AND A PARATROOPER. WHAT I MEAN BY ACCURATE IS THE BITS OF WARFARE SHOWN WITH THE BITS OF LEAVE THE MEN GOT ALSO. WHEN THEY WERE IN THE REAR DRINKING BETWEEN TIME ON THE FRONT LINES. THE COMEDY BETWEEN THE MEN EVEN WHEN THEY WERE IN THE MIDST OF AN ATTACK OR INDIRECT FIRE ATTACK. THIS IS WHAT THEY DID AND USED THAT HUMOR TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES. IT WASN'T ALL BULLETS AND BLOOD FOR 444 DAYS STRAIGHT, THERE WAS DOWN TIME WITH JOE BEING JOE.
