I wonder what a conversation between Joshua and Jonah would look like.
Jesus actually spoke of three "only signs" that he called the Sign of Jonah. The first was his ministry which he said was for "this generation," i.e. first century Israel. (Luke 11)
The second was his prophecy that his burial would be for a period of time less than 72 hours which he said would be for "a generation." (Matthew 12)
Since the slot for the "only sign to be given" to 1st century Israel was taken by Jesus' ministry, we are forced to understand that his words, "a generation," must have referred to some future population.
In the 20th century science discovered that the images on the Holy Shroud have evidence that proved that Jesus' corpse was interned for a period of less that 40 hours.
Because this relic's images validated Jesus' prophecy which he named the Sign of Jonah, they should be understood as that sign for the 20th century.
