Chapter 1: The Great City, The Great Wind, The Great Storm, The Great Fish
AND Jonah's 1st prophecy: "throw me into the sea and it will become calm."
Jonah was a prophet that Jesus seemed to hold in most high regard, since he spoke only positively of him, and, gave him the highest honor: Jesus referred to his impending suffering (the Passion) as "The Sign of Jonah".
God called Jonah and commissioned him, so I'm certain God didn't make a mistake. Jonah's behavior can be explained easily if you understand that he most likely a very young man, perhaps even a teenager (he ran, he slept deeply during a storm, he acted indifferent to other people's needs, he responded to God, like a teenager would. This all points to the fact that Jonah was not mature.)
I can't wait to meet this great prophet in the Kingdom!
(note: The symmetry in the 48 verses of Jonah is unparalleled. Chapter 1 alone flows beautifully along a "but, then, but, then" narrative. "Then they asked him" is used twice; thrice calm, calm, calm. The sailors are "afraid", "terrified", and "greatly feared" in just this one chapter. It ends with great symmetry "Jonah, Jonah, fish, fish, three, three" – "But God provided a great fish to swallow Jonah and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights".)
(7:50) „We should be thankful that God included Jonah in the bible’s canon”… We should be thankful that God DID NOT ALLOW Jonah to be EXCLUDED from the biblical canon, for political reasons and personal interests, by the Pharisees and scribes who came to power, in their multiple councils over the centuries, like the testimonies of the other eight apostles, of Mary Magdalene, such as the Book of Enoch or the writings of Origen were, and when even the Revelation of John was not too far from being excluded!
We had better be careful now, in these times of the Last Judgment, to recognize the only true Prophet, the One promised by Jesus to lead us into the whole Truth – not truncated and not distorted by human hand – for the duration of the Kingdom of a Thousand Years … if we do not want to suffer the fate of those „lukewarm” and wicked, or the foolish „virgins”!
Remember, when God says to love thy neighbor He doesn't say that you have to like them. But compassion fits the meaning.
