Japan showed no signs of surrender. There are some reports that attempts were made from both sides to agree to terms & they were receptive at the Japanese leadership level. But certainly not Hideki & his army. Secondly, keep in mind Japan attacked us essentially unprovoked. First attack on US soil, and we never forgot that. Lastly, they chose cities closely related to Japan’s military might/industry i.e. bullet, guns, missile tank production. 1 bomb to show were capable of such a weapon & a second bomb to show its repeatable. Tough choice & there’s certainly no perfect answer. However, Oppenheimer was right in saying that using this weapon may cease its further use. World powers may stockpile and threaten nuclear use, but more than likely simply won’t happen.
Watching Oppenheimer makes me appreciate this conversation more
Who just seen Oppenheimer ?
Fuck all to do with Japan. Place was about to go under anyway. It was testing of the efficacy of uranium versus plutonium designs & to put the shits up the soviets.
As a 17 year old finding all this recent controversy with the governments around the world really makes me worry what’s been going on behind closed doors for the past 100 years, probably so many secrets we will never know
