Well for some of us it's ADD and trying to cope in a modern bureaucracy, schedule and cookie cutter education. It's like the current environment is made to mess with us. Depending on your co-mobidities the rate of attempt can be as high as 60%. More needs to be done to nurture kids amd restructure education so that failing one class isn't putting their whole future into a downward spiral.
A lot of good comments, one thing I think gets overlooked though is substance abuse as well. The western world has great access to substance. When I used to use, I remember the thought of suicide feeling like a warm blanket. Thank God the afterthought was always selfishness and I pushed through

The bar is higher in wealthy countries. Unfortunately, I'm sure some people are committing suicide because they don't feel they measure up to expectations. Either their own or others. In some countries if you own a goat you might be the wealthiest person in town!
