Some of us might not have known that Nabal means "fool" in Hebrew. He had it made, descended from Caleb who was a wise man, was left a huge tract of land loaded with sheep and cattle and a vineyard to boot. Yet he had a very low hospitality quotient, not given to offer his place to strangers passing by and provide from his abundance some food for David's men. What I do not know is that the name Nabal was recorded after he demonstrated himself to be a fool. That his name was some other name. Nabal, whoever he was, was not to be recorded in the book of Life, but a book of Shame. This is a warning to those of us when we turn away strangers who are in need. The LORD will provide a double-edge sword, one test to see if we will take in a stranger, and the other if we do in fact perform our hospitality, He will recompense us. Proverbs 19:17
