This is an area I have a hard time with… People are getting worse and its very hard at times to show that love for them. At work I have a young girl who does have some sort of mental disability, I'm not sure what kind but it is obvious but she does understand things. I pick her up several times a week and take her to work. I drive a public bus. She only has to pay .50 each way. I pick her up after she got off work to take her home the other day and she just walks on by me, I stop her to let her know I need to collect her bus fare, she tells me she don't have it, then trys to go sit down. I advise her that I can not give her a ride then. Another passenger paid her fare and I let him know this has happened many times before. This is not the first time nor the 10th time she has done this. Awhile ago she was using her reduced fare card as a bus pass, this card has her picture on it and let's the driver know she only has to pay half of the fare, it is not a bus pass. She got away with this several times with many drivers until I saw it. This girl purposely deceits drivers, uses her disability like she does not understand when she does. I'm not the only driver that has had issues with her. I usually carry money on me to help people who need to get somewhere, I will pay their fare if I have the money on me to do so. This girl purposely is deceitful and expects to get away with it. She never thanked the passenger that paid her fare that day. I had a talk with her that day before she got off and explained that I just can't give her free rides and many times it comes out of my pocket. I also let her know if she does not have her fare she will not ride. I feel bad for having to do this but it also makes me upset the way she is deceitful. She does use her disability as an excuse for her behavior. She knows the difference between right and wrong but expects to get away with it and expects you to let her get away with it and that is what bothers me. If I allow her to keep behaving this way she will never learn how wrong it is and will keep being deceitful. I have been working with this company for 5 years, she has been riding the bus longer then I have worked there doing this behavior. Other drivers can just brush it off and tell our boss but I can't do that… It does not correct anything. It makes me feel like crap when I do but I don't believe we should allow this behavior to keep happening, without doing something to correct it. My point is, help people in need but don't let them use you to keep getting away with their behavior, especially if it is deceitful. Know your limit, you don't have to allow someone to walk all over you. Correcting them is also loving them. I would never allow my children to behave the way she does and I would correct them.
