Regarding the Ten Commandments (and the Golden Calf), my research since 1990 has been about determining what is behind these two motifs, that is of an archaeological nature?

I understand that the Ten Commandments never really existed, except in the narrator's imagination!

Yet, my research has uncovered what I believe to be the historical kernels underlying these two motifs!

Today (2023), the physical evidence of what is behind the Ten Commandments, lies in a museum, in Egypt, unrecognized by Egyptologists, for what they are, the physical remains, of the shattered Ten Commandments.

But, you will say, "How can this be?"

How is it that archaeologists have failed to realize they have found what's behind the shattered stone remains of the Ten Commandments in the southern Sinai?

What trail of clues lead me to identify the physical remains of what is behind the shattered Ten Commandments?

It all began, for me in the 1990's some 30 years ago, while living near Heidelberg, Germany, where I was a teacher of history and geography to Middle School students at the Patrick Henry Village, Heidelberg Middle School.

I chanced upon a scholarly book on Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions, written in English in the 1980s, but published in West Germany:

Benjamin Sass. 1988, The Genesis of the Alphabet and its development in the 2nd Millennium BC. Publisher: Otto Harrassowitz. Wiesbaden, Germany.

I was struck by the black and white photos and line drawings of Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions found on stone stelae, and how they resembled the Ten Commandments seen in Christian Art (they are technically called steliform by scholars, and are rectangular in shape with rounded tops).

Some of these stelae were in a shattered condition. Some had only a few minor cracks, but some had been shattered into as many as 13 pieces!

An English commentary by the author explained why the shattering.

Originally, they had been carved into the living rock face near mining tunnel entrances. Over time, due to nature's forces of erosion and weathering, they broke free of the mount's surface and fell into the rocky rubble scree at the foot of the mounts where they shattered on impact. Archaeologists would find them later.

Scholars debate today (2023) when these Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions were made.

Currently, two dates are in favor, circa the 19th century BC, or the 16th century BC.

These inscriptions ask the gods' favor in protecting the miners from harm, helping them find rich veins of copper and turquoise.

I doubt the Iron Age II Israelites (ca. the 7th/6th centuries BC, who authored the Exodus account) could read these Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions.

They simply "explained them away" as having been made by the hand of God, while their shattered states were explained away as an angry Moses hurling down the stones at the foot of Mount Sinai/Horeb upon hearing Israel at song and dance before the Golden Calf.

These mining tunnels are to be found in the vicinity of a shrine erected to honor the Egyptian patron goddess of the miners, a bovine deity called Hat-Hor (also rendered Hathor). She could assume different forms in myths: A lovely young woman with cow ears (a sun disk between her horns), a female cow, suckling Pharaoh as a male calf at her udder.

I discovered that in Egyptian myths Hat-Hor's devotees honored her annually with naked, drunken, song and dance to therefore emulate her.

This, for me, was what had been recast as a naked Israel (in the King James Version of the Bible), noisely singing and dance in honor of a Golden Calf.

The Egyptian myths noted that Hat-Hor was not the Golden Calf, she was heavenly-sky-cow-mother of the Golden Calf!

At sunrise, the rising sun was envisioned as being a Golden Calf (a deceased Pharaoh being resurrected). Tomb art shows a small bark (boat) on an invisible heavenly Nile, with Horus seated with a human body and hawk's head, standing before Horus, on four legs, is hornless bull-calf, with a polar star hovering over its back.

Here, for me, was the Golden Calf mentioned in the corpus of Old Kingdom Pyramid Texts:

Pharaoh Pepi, Dynasty 6, ca. 2300 BC pleads:

"O Horus, do not leave me boatless, for I am a Golden Calf born of Heaven!"

As Hat-Hor is portrayed as a sky-cow or heaven, she gives birth to the rising sun as a Golden Calf.

Hat-Hor was called nubt, meaning "the golden one," perhaps an allusion to the heaven or sky at sunrise taking on a golden hue from the rising sun?

So, it is my understanding that behind Exodus' story of Golden Calf worship, involving naked (KJV), drunken, song and dance, are events associated with the worship of Hat-Hor and her son, a deceased Pharaoh, as the sun at sunrise, in the vicinity of Gebel Serabit el Khadim.

Tomb art shows two trees with a male calf passing between them, above the calf, a rising sun, sometimes with a deceased male squatting on the calf's back, perhaps an allusion to a resurrection of the dead?

Just south of the Hat-Hor shrine are two mounts, Gebel Ghorabi and Gebel Saniya, perhaps mounts Horeb and Sinai in corrupted Arabic?

As regards Moses' making Israel "drink" the Golden Calf as punishment, in myth, Hat-Hor's devotees drank copious qantities of wine and beer to become drunk, emulating Hat-Hor's drunkeness after drinking vast quantities of wine and beer.

In myth, to stop Hat-Hor's annihilation of the human race for disrespecting the sun god Ra, and to save mankind from complete destruction, huge quantities of beer and wine, dyed red to resemble human blood, to deceive Hat-Hor into drinking what she thinks is human blood. She falls down into a drunken stupor or sleep, ending her slaughter of mankind, her drunken sleep thereby saving mankind from complete annihilation!

So, perhaps the drinking of alcoholic beverages to emulate Hat-Hor by her devotees, was recast as Moses forcing Israel to drink of the Golden Calf (Hat-Hor), after Israel's naked song and dance?

By drinking of the Golden Calf (Hat-Hor) her devotees honored her, becoming like her in a sense.

In reality, Hat-Hor is not the Golden Calf, in myth, she is the sky-cow-heavenly mother that gives birth to the sun at sunrise, who is the Golden Calf.

  4. Imagine if God took the soul of the Prophet Moses at that time and made him live in Paradise. Imagine what the Jews would do🎉
Our Lord placed his horns and made us cross the sea😍
God makes a sound Mooo Moo
    Maybe it means Moses
Aaron: Let's look for my brother
Jews: Go to hell, you and your brother. We found what we wanted👽
