The sad thing is if this woman was saying she was African American she wouldn’t get the time of day but it’s ok for her to claim to be Indian let’s see her bloodline prove it and I’m a white guy that has a grandmother who’s grandmother was half Indian yet I don’t claim to be one yet it’s worse now because we definitely destroyed there culture now we have whites trying to claim they’re one of them sad fr

  2. 3:36 is the problem in a nutshell: To quote this lady (who is a beautifully articulate and sincere representative), they(native Americans) want to be "just like anybody else," which really means just like other Americans. And yet, they also want to retain some degree of "otherness" (collective land ownership, culture, language etc) that doesn't necesarilly work well in US society. It's a very tough problem.

I wish she would have spoke more on issues of disenrollment, tribal government corruption, the multi-dimensional effects of COVID in Indigenous communities, the explosion of Indigenous college educated, the issue of missing & murdered Indigenous women, and the rise of Indigenous environmental action.
