  1. Here are some details that will hopefully help a sincere Bible reader to understand Daniel chapters 1 and 2. For example, the "third year of the kingship of Jehoiakim" at Daniel 1:1 was 618 B.C.E., or his third year as a vassal king of King Nebuchadnezzar (2 Kings 24:1), NOT the "third year" of his kingship over Judea, for his reign began in 629 B.C.E. after his father Josiah died at the hands of Pharaoh Necho of Egypt in about 630 B.C.E., who then made 25 year old Jehoiakim king in place of his younger 23 year old brother Jehoahaz (in which the people of Judah had made king, 2 Kings 23:29, 30) whom Pharaoh Necho imprisoned at Riblah (a town some 250 miles north of Jerusalem in Syrian territory, 2 Kings 23:31-34) and Jehoiakim's reign ended in 618 B.C.E. when he apparently died at the hands King Nebuchadnezzar.(see Jer 22:18, 19)

So, the Bible "book" of Daniel , verses 1 and 2, starts in the year 618 B.C.E. and then continues on to chapter 2:1-4 that says: "In the second year of his kingship, Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar had a number of dreams, and he was so agitated that he could not sleep. So the king gave the order to summon the magic-practicing priests, the conjurers, the sorcerers, and the Chal·deʹans to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king. Then the king said to them: “I have had a dream, and I am agitated because I want to know what I dreamed.” The Chal·deʹans replied to the king in the Ar·a·maʹic language: “O king, may you live on forever. Relate the dream to your servants, and we will tell the interpretation."

Daniel 2:1 is NOT the "second year" of Nebuchadnezzar's reign over Babylon, but rather his 2nd year of his kingship over Jerusalem with its two tribe kingdom of Judah, so that the year is about 606 B.C.E. (or about 12 years later than Dan 1:1), for Jerusalem's destruction was completed in 607 B.C.E. by the Babylonian armies.(2 Kings 25:1-10; Note: Nebuchadnezzar reigned from 625-582 B.C.E.)

And Ashpenaz at Daniel 1:3 was NOT "master of his (or King Nebuchadnezzar's) eunuchs", but rather a chief court official of King Nebuchadnezzar, for in other occurrences of the Hebrew word cariyc, it can also mean "valet, and thus a minister of state" as at Genesis 40:2 ("chief butler", KJV) and 2 Kings 24:15 ("officers", KJV), besides meaning "to castrate, a eunuch".(Note: another Greek word ("eunouchos") that is rendered as "eunuch" in the King James Bible at Acts 8:27-39, really means "court official" under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure)

And as for the dreams that King Nebuchadnezzar had, of "an immense image" of a man made up of various metals, along with iron and clay in the feet that looked terrifying, that will also be explained.(Dan 2:31-33)

  2. God came to Moses after he had been living in the desert for forty years, and said, “Moses, go tell Pharaoh to let My people go.” Moses said, “God, I can’t stand before Pharaoh; I stutter. I have a problem with my speech. You know I don’t speak well.” God said, “Moses, who made your tongue, who made your lips?” Do you think God would ask you to do something and then not give you the ability to do it? Do you think He would choose you to be here at this time in history and not give you everything you need to live a victorious life, to overcome obstacles, to leave your family better than they were before? What was Moses’ problem? He had the wrong story. He was telling himself, “I’m unqualified; I’m at a disadvantage; I have these limitations.” The story you believe is the story that’s going to come to pass.
