There are incorrect translations of 'spirit', 'glory', 'lord', 'annointing', and many other things … not only the translations but the explanations. Many of the early Christian theologians spoke against using incense. It was said that Christ is our sweet smelling sacrifice. The use of incense in the sanctuary and later the temple was a sacrifice which the priest performed. Christ was sacrificed once and for all according to Hebrews so there remains no more sacrifice. The only sacrifice spoken of in the early Christian liturgies was the sacrifice of praise. By the year 1215, the 4th Lateran Council confirmed the doctrine of transubstantiation, saying that the bread and wine went away and only the Body and Blood of Christ were left, which at the moment of the words of institution became an un-bloody sacrifice. Many bishops protested and Wycliff was locked in a tower. Later, Johann Huss was burned at the stake because he denied this new doctrine. If we read the words that Christ told us to repeat, the offering of a sacrifice is not there, nor are we commanded to use incense in Christian worship. It seems that the command of the Lord is never enough for man.
