I guess this is as a good of a place for this story. I met a dude who survived a great white attack, and I’ll be damned if even just that, wasn’t one of the most surreal encounters I’ve ever had. The scenario… It’s 2011(+/-) I’m bartending at an Outback in Charleston, SC. It’s empty, hour til close, ready gtfo. Two dudes come in, one w/ big chatty, goofy energy. Nice guy, but ordering speciality margs in an empty bar after 9 is, um, unusual. He then points past to the TV’s and says I was just on that. Just so happens it’s Shark Week (at the time in CHS, won out over sports on bar TV) The way he said basically everything, again, unusual. I’m about over but I bite…He then says they aired his story. He was a deep water welder, working off the coast of AUS, and was on his last pause to decompress. He didn’t even see it coming, but sneaky fucker came straight up from the dark and scooped him up by the torso and took him straight up, miraculously breaching the surface within arms reach of the crew on the boat, completing the life saving alley oop, if you will. Cool story bro…Just as I’m about call bullshit, he hits me with THE question, “You want to see the scar?” Motherfuckin’ right, shit’s about to get really real, and my friends, it was indeed the most cartoonishly and unmistakably gnarly shark bite scar imaginable. Not clean, but raised, jagged, gnarly. From Right to Left. Pit to Hip. Front and Back. Mother and Fucker. Here my dumbass was annoyed and silently judging this dude’s unusual way. Also, makes complete sense why he may choose to go to an fucking OUTBACK on SHARK WEEK and have a god blessed GOLD COAST MARGARITA. For fuck’s sake what the fuck else could be more fitting, and who the fuck could be more deserving!?!? His name, who tf can say, not I. Was it King Shark? Maybe. Aquaman? Could be. Poseidon? Possibly. One thing guaranteed is I paid his tab, and that I’m willing to bet your sweet sweet rib meat that you or I ain’t fucking worthy of his majesty’s good fortune.
