But Call of Duty makes it seem so easy.
Folk find it hard to believe that male captives will be raped as well as the females. Rape isn’t a sexual thing, it’s a power thing. So what he said about men and women being raped pretty much straight away makes total sense. And it fucks people up. It breaks their spirit, ( not everyone breaks), and that’s what the captors want. It’s easier to manipulate their prisoners. I wasn’t in the military but I was abused sexually from the age of 3 by a neighbour who’d take me in his boat to a small island offshore, (I live on the coast in the Scottish highlands), and would abuse me in a small lean-to thing he’d made from tarpaulin and wood or would do it in the boat. My parents went away a lot and I was sent to him and his wife to stay. I didn’t know what he was doing was bad and I just accepted it until I got to about 8 or 9. Then I stopped going to their house – I’d throw tantrums and beg to go to a friend’s house instead. Anyway, I didn’t deal with it until I was 26 and was admitted to a psych hospital after a total mental collapse. It definitely stays in the back of your mind even though you feel you’ve blocked it all out. So, yeah, anyone who’s been in Jessica’s situation will definitely be messed-up inside even if they hide it from everyone. I can’t imagine the terror she and the rest of her unit went through during their ordeal. When the footage of her rescue was released you can see how terrified she is even though she’s hearing American accents and seeing American troops…..poor lassie.

So fortunate it is to have Americans like Andy.
