I like how for 2000 years men all think they are part of the final generation yet technology, improvements, knowledge (biblical tools included), keep growing allowing the kingdom of Christ to march forward to amazing new heights and depths across the disc. And while things may always look bleak – I believe there’s plenty of evidence in the Word that this earth isn’t going anywhere and that his will will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Futurism is depressing and debilitating and imo makes many Christians impotent and fearful thinking what’s the point in achieving much in life and working hard if it’s all going to Hell in a hand basket anyway? And Jesus is gonna have to pluck us out of this mess because essentially evil has won and all the promises that he made to us about having power through prayer and over the enemy has failed. Will he find faith on earth? Is there faith on earth. I now believe in covenant eschatology and it brings with it a powerfully positive mental disposition based on faith and concentration on what privileges Christ gave us. When reading the NT in context and with the audience of the letters in mind (early Corinth church, Roman Church etc etc) we can have greater assurance that revelation was written to the 1st century church and verse 1:1 gives away the entire timeframe of the events of that book: these things which will SOON come to pass. Suddenly Jesus’ statement in Matt 24 that “THIS GENERATION” will not pass away until ALL these things come to pass make a lot more sense – as Jesus was not lying or tricking his disciples to believe that they were the generation but then he left them hanging. No, he didn’t leave them hanging. With a new perspective of reading the scripture with the audience (the first century fledgling church) in mind— suddenly, the world doesn’t have to end. And the wonderful promises of our great king unto us become more real than ever. And instead of waiting to die in a Walmart FEMA camp or be raptured as you pick through a garbage dump you can assume a posture of a soldier in Jesus’ army, equipped and ready to battle in the spirit and take back territory for the King through the weapons of our prayers.
Or you can focus on the “end times” and do little or nothing , believing God for little more than a fairly painless trip out of here.
