  1. As synchronicity and the universe would have it, I visited Joe Exotic's zoo in rural Oklahoma in 2017 while on a roadtrip home to South Dakota from Texas. I'm attracted to Joe Dirt so when I saw Joe Exotic's billboard on the highway it was like a magnet so there was no way I was gonna pass up that opportunity. I'm also drawn to the darkest comedy so it was meant to be. The whole time I was in the zoo, even in the gift shop, I was like "WTF! Is this guy for real?!" I totally sensed the darkness, like I knew some dark shit happened there, like perhaps a human's arm had been ripped off by a tiger. The signed autograph of Bill Cosby saying "Good job, Joe!" below the cash register in the gift shop gave me chills, as if it was a premonition. Both men were soon locked up in their own cages. I never saw Joe Exotic in person there, only a big mural of him on a wall outside. The gift shop was so dirty. All of the shelves had a thick layer of dust and dirt on them. I came upon Joe's display of homemade music video DVDs and said WTF for like the hundreth time and laughed. I had no clue a documentary had been made about him until I began watching Tiger King in 2020. As soon as it dawned on me that this documentary was about Joe Exotic and his zoo my mouth dropped and I had to pause it because I became paralyzed in awe of having visited this wild zoo. What I had sensed there was real and fucking wilder and stranger than I could ever imagine.
