As a person who has owned, shown, trained, very rarely breed Great Pyrenees, Kangal, and Central Asian Ovtcharka dogs breeds at varying times over the past 40 years, was privileged to own a UKC Champion 194 lb male Central Asian Ovtcharka, who easily out-ran and out-maneuvered hunting dogs, and effortlessly jumped over 2 meter tall fencing from a stand-still, killed 5 coyote-wolf hybrids that had tore my neighbors prized two $15k a piece attack trained doberman to pieces. He also killed two adult buck deer in 60 seconds, caught and killed a bobcat, a fighting pitbull that was intentionally let off-leash to attack him, and an adult copperhead snake. I can state unequivocally, that these dog breeds are certainly not well suited for a novice dog owner or someone who defers to the dog, fails to assume leadership roles, because in the absence of a dominant, Alpha pack leader, these dogs will gladly usurp that role. Live Stock Guardian dog breeds are cognitively very advanced, however, they are bred to be independent thinkers, able to perceive threats from non-threats and take the necessary actions to mitigate those threats without input or direction from humans. As such, they are often very reluctant to take commands from humans, thinking, I got this, I don't need your advice, input, and certainly not your orders telling me what to do. They tend to bond closely to one human male and his family, guarding the children and wife with their lives, but are exceeding reluctant to take commands from children or human females, that they perceive to be less than their physical equal.
I have two. They are amazing!
