if it is scarred, you are basically done. same principle with copd. even you recover, breathing will deteoriate in time. that basically means insufficient oxygen to lungs, means you ll be alive with a partially functioning body. steroids just suppress the inflamation, that´s all. they never cure or heal the damage. worse noone knows the effects on capillaries in detail, you can end up in blood clots easily. as reference, look at the avian flu from 2006. those who ended in ICU were basically done statistically even after the virus was gone, the damage was there already. apart from lungs, you can end up diabetes next day or if you have alzheimers, it can deteoriate really fast. recall that your taste sense is gone as a symptom which is a proof that virus reaches out the brain fast. what i am afraid are not really those though. if this virus has the ability to stay dormant in nerves hiding, that means we have a virus like herpes, hsv 1/2 which can be treated but never gets cured.
