I understand Indians being annoyed that they're being called "Apu" by idiots, but did that no also happen with redheads being called "Opie", with dweebs being called "Pee-Wee Herman", with fat black guys called "Rerun?"….I mean where's that outrage?
They pretend to be on the side of social justice awhile taking away everything that represents it. Aunt Jemima can't be on syrup anymore because she's black. It wasn't offense but, they want us to think it was because they are undercover racists. Tricking us into thinking they care about minorities while they remove symbols of racial equality. They ignore the words of Martin Luther King Jr. who was secretly killed by a leftist. They ignore the words of Malcom X who warned them about white liberals. It is erasure disguised as racial justice.
A lot of western, English speaking countries have had a corner store/supermarket/etc owned by an Indian immigrant, who's whole family works there and he's open every public holiday. It was satire of real life. Willie isn't voiced by a Scotsman, McBain, etc, get over it
its not the bad stereotypes. its the fact there's close to zero stereotypes for south asians in western media – which ironically spurs it further. make a joke abt a black guy? the prog wasps are now running after you cancelling you. make a joke about indian people? the prog wasps themselves laugh because its politically correct to do so. there is no severe backlash for making fun of south asians since there is no perceived value. if there were positive stereotypes pertaining to music sport and other artforms – more would jump up to defend them because it feels "cool", "trendy" and "heroic".
