The HBO doc on this is good but I recommend a YouTube page called Defunctland. The guy makes incredible short docs about all the defunct amusement parks and their most popular rides. His attention to detail is amazing. His pieces on Euro-Dianey and universal studios are as in depth as they are nostalgic.
In the mid eighties we would take a bud to action park and it was freaking insane !! I literally almost drowned 3 times lol we would do drugs and swing off ropes lol the wave pool was one of the most dangerous things but what ended action park was the loop da loop when the fat kid died
Me and my friends were always going and leaving skin on the "Alpine slide " every single time , we just wouldn't learn . they also had these small race cars OMG so much fun . that Tarzan swing almost took me out , not a good swimmer also they had a tube which you would enter and spit you out about 15 feet in the air over a small body of water . a huge slide into water if you went in head first say goodbye to your short's . Speedboats . what a time to be alive and break something . Thanks .
