  1. The problem when comparing us to other countries is also size… Locking down South Korea is easier as it is a peninsula with 1/6 our size in population. The additional problem is that officials have states for years that masks are infective and suddenly change their tune to say its absolutely necessary. Lastly, we have dealt with countless over blown pandemics just over the last 20 years. Swine flu, bird flu, H1N1, zika, so on and so on. Finally, the issue is ideological and can no longer be debated as people have taken it in as part of their political and moral identity Regardless of all this, only 0.125% of the US population has died from COVID which I consider fairly insignificant, though that is a matter of opinion. Certainly a far lower death toll than many (what I would call) fear mongers had predicted.
