  1. 2 Esdras

    Chapter 13:
    37And this my Son shall rebuke the wicked inventions of those nations, which for their wicked life are fallen into the tempest;

    38And shall lay before them their evil thoughts, and the torments wherewith they shall begin to be tormented, which are like unto a flame: and he shall destroy them without labour by the law which is like unto me.

    39And whereas thou sawest that he gathered another peaceable multitude unto him;

    40Those are the ten tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land.

    41But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen, and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt,

    42That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land.

    43And they entered into Euphrates by the narrow places of the river.

    44For the most High then shewed signs for them, and held still the flood, till they were passed over.

    45For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region is called Arsareth.

    ARZARETH:

    By: Morris Jastrow, Jr., Kaufmann Kohler
    The name of the land beyond the great river, far away from the habitation of man, in which the Ten Tribes of Israel will dwell, observing the laws of Moses, until the time of the restoration, according to IV Esd. xiii. 45. Columbus identified America with this land. (See Kayserling's "Christopher Columbus," translated by Dr. C. Gross, p. 15.)

  2. I'm full-blooded NA & this makes me proud as hell. Yeah, I certainly do feel like an endangered species sometimes, but there are more of us than most people generally think. Also, a minor comment about NA's & sports (**trigger warning**) most NA's don't give a crap about the Washington Redskins or the Land-o-Lakes lady, or any of that iconography. NA tribes have far more pressing & serious matters that generate real concern than the name of a sports team. What that is, by & large, the outrage of activists who are angered on our behalf. When you stop & think about it, that's rather insulting. I mean, what's more racist, naming your sports team the Tomahawks, Redskins, Indians, Braves, etc. & building a brand that people get behind, or being the elitist white liberal who feels that the NA's have been wronged & that this is the soapbox to take a stand on? I don't speak for any tribe, just my own opinion: I really don't care. I'm not affected or insulted in any way by it.

    One of the only things that truly pissed me off is when I saw a bunch of old, white seniors drive through our reservation & snap photos of our kids like they're on safari or at the zoo…that grinds me the wrong way. I mean, if there's a Pow-Wow & we're in traditional dress, that's one thing; but I'm talking kids walking to school or to the park & becoming a roadside attraction…that's messed up.

    In the end, I'm a proud American who works hard for my family. I also happen to be a direct descendant of the people who originated North America for untold generations. Keep your government guilt money & your pity, I'm doing just fine. And yes, we are still here. Thank you, JOE ROGAN for bringing awareness of JIM THORPE!

  3. Don't know about that hats went away because of JFK-part. Surely his not wearing one pushed the trend of hatlesness along, but the reason i heard was that cars became such a thing that almost anyone could get one – and it was not comfy or handy to wear a hat inside one. But maybe it was all because of JFK, who knows.
