  1. 2. Did Jesus use the word "hell" or "hell fire" ? No. Rather he used the Greek word gehenna at Matthew 5:22, 23, 30, 10:28 and 18:9 that the King James Bible and other Bibles have rendered as "hell" or "hell fire", giving the totally wrong impression that a place of "damnation" exist "below".

This Greek word of gehenna does NOT mean "eternal torment", but rather everlasting destruction. How can this be known ? Simply by reading Matthew 10:28, that reads according to the King James Bible: "And fear not them which kill the body (or our material body that can be replaced with a new body when resurrected), but are not able to kill the soul (who we are as a person): but rather fear him which is able to destroy ("destroy", Greek apollumi, meaning "to destroy fully, literally or figuratively") both soul and body (or everything making us a complete, living person) in hell ("hell", Greek gehenna, meaning everlasting destruction)."

How many people are CAREFUL readers of the Bible ? Almost none, but rather most just gloss over words without seriously pondering what was written. In fact, how many have made a CAREFUL search into the King James Bible's (or other Bible's) accuracy, using online interlinears such as Scripture4all Hebrew and Scripture4all Greek, that helps a SINCERE person to grasp what more readily what is "the truth" ? Again, almost none.

How many have looked up the word "hell" in a quality dictionary ? Almost none. Here is what "hell" meant when the King James Bible was published some 400 years ago: "Old English hel(l) . Ultimately from an Indo-European word meaning “to conceal,” which is also the ancestor of English conceal, occult, eucalyptus, and apocalypse."(Microsoft Encarta Reference Library 2005)

So, in 1611 when the King James Bible was printed, to tell someone that they are "helling potatoes" did NOT mean to roast them, but rather to "conceal" them in a COOL place, for a later time to cook and eat.

And at Luke 16:19-31, Jesus was NOT teaching "hell" or "hellfire" as so many believe, but rather was illustrating that the "rich man" represented the Jewish religious leaders (that "loved money", or "covetous", see verse 14) who fed spiritual "crumbs" to Lazarus or the common Jew (see John 7:49, whereby the Jewish religious leaders called the common Jew, as accursed for "not knowing the Law"), so that they were deeply sick spiritually, being "full of sores".(Luke 16:20, KJV)

The "drop of water on their tongue " that the "rich man" or Jewish religious leaders requested meant that they wanted Jesus and his disciples to slow down even a little bit in their scathing denunciation of them, easing up in their harsh judgments against them, so that they feel at least a little relief, but which Jesus "raised the tempo" even more three days before he was executed on a stake at the demands of the Jewish religious leaders.(John 19:6, 15; Matt 23)
