SWP Visits Kachai Village, India FYTube

Justin and Joy go on a trip to Kachai, Manipur, India, home of the Naga people, an ethnic group who have been oppressed by the Indian government for decades by militaristic, economic, and governmental forces including torture, taxes, and regulations that leave the children of these villages struggling to find supplies for education. This issue is just now coming to light as a call for support echoes throughout the video which reveals the underclassed people’s struggles and joys.

Justin and Joy spent December 2017 with the local Naga people in Kachai. One of the causes we walked away wanting to support is this school. They are the only school within a large radius and over 250 kids hike from various mountain villages to get here because the educated staff have dedicated their lives to helping the people here. They, however, do not have a library, and many of the staff do not even have lesson plan books!

The idea for the library was given by Pastor Soprang, lead pastor of the Kachai Baptist Church, the one church that serves the entire town. With his direction, I’m sure the funds donated will be appropriately handled to ensure the education of the Naga children won’t be denied by their poverty-stricken lives. They don’t ask for water heaters, gas stoves, cell phones, or internet. These people only want to be educated, to move into society, and grow. They have much to offer, and I pray you will be moved to know that there is no other international support for this town. They are even denied basic infrastructure assistance from the government of India. The roads left me constantly alert for death as the rainy season had seen much of the 15ft wide cliffside roads destroyed in mudslides. There is no pavement, and if you’re lucky, the government laid some pebbles, but even during the wedding season, no timing can be set in stone until after the fact because even brides are hours late to their own weddings.

The Naga are a people who love family and community; they always make it to family weddings, normally around five or so a year. The future generation needs some of our spoils to step into the competitive world of capitalism. We are the ones who can help these people! With the Naga people from Kachai village, thanks for your time!
