Jackson proceeded to nearly beat the man to death with his cane until he was forcibly stopped from doing so by US Representatives who, along with Jackson, were attending a funeral service for another Rep who had passed away. One of the Reps who was noted to have restrained Jackson and stopped him from killing the assassin was Davy Crockett.
