  1. Covered California gives you a discount on the purchase of your own personal health insurance. Example based on my income I would get a $290 discount on my own personal health insurance. The plan with the least amount of coverage I have to pay an additional $146 to the insurance company; that’s minus my $290 discount from the government. With that type of premium cost, for my son only, once I’ve paid just my basic bills for my apartment, car and child care, I cannot afford to take my son to the doctor or prescriptions. This is due to the deductible being 2,500.00 and high co-pays to actually utilize the insurance I’m paying a premium for. Why is the government giving them $290 on my behalf, so this no-name insurance company can receive $436 a month. I feel like the buying power of the government should be a lot better than $436 for personal health insurance. Basically they’re buying group rate health insurance for hundreds of thousands of people, and they can’t get a better deal than my company of less than 500 people?! Who is negotiating these prices with the insurance companies for the government.
