  1. When I moved to Oahu in 2005 there was not one Photovoltaic Panel on any home, and when I asked people why no Photovoltaic they asked what it was. Yet, the CEO of Hawaiian Electric was making like 5 Million Dollars a year. I hope he wins, his heart is in it.

  2. I think BJ Penn's heart might be in the right place, but he doesn't have any actual solutions for the problems he's bringing up. Complete sustainability is impossible for even developed nations in Europe, how does he expect to do that on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? The world is a complex integrated system of exchanging goods and services. We all rely on each other for something. If you want complete self sustainability you'd have to give up everything from cars/trucks/hunting equipment/phones/modern technology to noodles and wheat. Essentially putting Hawai'i back into the stone age. I believe the real solution needs to be something progressive. Like making Hawai'i high tech, teaching our high schoolers how to code and building a high tech industry similar to Taiwan and Israel (both small nations with a high gdp) Get more Hawaiians into college, we have one of the worst school systems, let's invest in the future of the children. Go into the future, not the past. Just my two cents.
