  1. Material wealth among the Israelites was NOT necessarily a "sign of God's blessing", for some Israelites chased after wealth that caused them to have God's anger, not blessing, such as Achan, who saw among the spoil of the city of Jericho when the Israelites were destroying it, "a good-looking official garment from Shinar (or ancient Babylonia), and 200 shekels of silver (worth about $1,578.83 at $21.51 per troy ounce) and one gold bar weighing 50 shekels (worth about $87,958.50, at $1,759.17 per troy ounce)."(Joshua 7:21)

Elisha's attendant Gehazi chased after wealth, so that the leprosy that was on the Syrian army chief Naaman came to be on him.(see 2 Kings 5) Israelite kings, with their wealth, often abandoned God, even refusing to pay the workers on their homes, such as King Jehioakim of Judah.(Jer 22:13, 14, 18, 19)

When an Israelite worked to PLEASE God, whose name is Jehovah (see Isa 12:2, KJV), ONLY then would they be blessed, with Moses saying to the nation of Israel while on the desert plains in front of Suph: "And if you will without fail LISTEN to the voice of Jehovah your God by being careful to do ALL his commandments that I am commanding you today, Jehovah your God will certainly put you high above all other nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you, because you keep listening to the voice of Jehovah your God:"

"Blessed you will be in the city, and blessed you will be in the field."
“Blessed will be your children and the fruit of your ground and the offspring of your livestock, your young cattle and sheep."
“Blessed will be your basket and your kneading bowl."
“Blessed you will be when you come in, and blessed you will be when you go out."

“Jehovah will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you.""Jehovah will make you overflow with many children and much livestock and fruitful ground in the land that Jehovah swore to your forefathers to give you."(Deut 28:1-11)

So any blessing was dependent on obedience, for Deuteronomy 28 further said: "But if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God by taking care to do all his commandments and his statutes that I am commanding you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:"

“Cursed you will be in the city, and cursed you will be in the field."
“Cursed will be your basket and your kneading bowl."
“Cursed will be your children and the fruit of your ground and your young cattle and sheep.”
“Cursed you will be when you come in, and cursed you will be when you go out.”

So, a blessing from Jehovah only comes through obedience, such as doing what Jesus told his disciples: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father (Jehovah God) and of the Son (Jesus Christ) and of the holy spirit (Jehovah’s active force), teaching them (from “house to house”, Acts 20:20, by means of home Bible studies) to observe all the things I have commanded you.”(Matt 28:19, 20)

  2. Human beings often fall to the trap of worshiping earthly possessions, we betray, hurt, and even kill for money, fame, power, etc. For all is vanity. Let's repent and follow God. Dear Lord, forgive us our sins and lead us not into temptations
