There’s a good Australian movie about Vietnam, it’s called “the odd angry shot”
It’s worth a watch if the topic interests you
I watched it as a kid and then later after I’d finished an enlistment in the navy, I found it interesting how the culture in the defence force is still quite similar all these years later
A veteran next door to me named Douglas real nice older guy always tells me “I never understood why we went to Vietnam I saw those people eating McDonald’s and wearing Levi jeans after I left.”
The economy was drastically different from the end of World War Two in the USA compared to the economic conditions at the end of the Vietnam war in the USA. Soldiers coming home from WW2 had a choice of abundance of jobs where at the end of Vietnam were were going through declining economic conditions. Then you add the treatment soldiers received coming home from those two wars. It’s sad because all soldiers deserve the respect and support when they return home
One main difference between WW2 and Vietnam was the media. Vietnam was the first television war. Everybody was exposed to the reality of war in Vietnam. WW2 was more romantic.
Vets get treated like shit but Vietnam vets got treated the absolute worst for no good reason really
