Virtual church- week 2, commentary from Joe, Walkonwater.
Unfortunately I did not attend the virtual church this past sabbath, I would like to comment and bring to your attention that the Bible speak of Jesus -Yehoshua right from the beginning of the Bible. I will use ESV because it is easier to read in today English. Due to limit how many characters I am allowed to write in the comment section, I will continue the comments one after another. Please have patience with me my mother tongue is Slovak, not English. This is not the first example of Jesus in the Bible encounter with mankind before His birth however most famous to many people without realizing it.
There are two persons in the burning bush, Read carefully below, read twice, three times…
Exodus 3:2 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” 4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 And he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
This show us that there were two persons in the bush -One visible speaking to Moses and second invisible. The Angel of the Lord was visible and the Lord -YHWH was invisible however both speaking with Moses. In the verse 6 we see that Moses was looking on one visible person, but there were two persons. Verse 4 confirm that, YHWH is speaking now to Moses and he was invisible. Also we see in verse 6 that Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God, that mean he saw God -Jesus and we know from the Bible that no mortal man can see God the Father YHWH the invisible God and live.
Exodus 23:20 “Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. 21 Pay careful attention to him and obey his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression, for my name is in him. 22 “But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
In the verse 21 this angel is singled out because the name of God YHWH is in that angel, and he will be visible to them every day until they get to the border of the promised land.
The verses below the angel speak in first and third person as God YHWH, however the angel is visible Judges2:1Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, I will never break my covenant with you, 2 land you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” 4 As soon as the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim. And they sacrificed there to the LORD.
You know what happened in this story after 40 years of Israel traveling with the angel of YHWH and they turn to idolatry the angel speaking as YHWH finally left them, they saw Him everyday but next day He was gone.
Genesis 31:10 In the breeding season of the flock I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream that the goats that mated with the flock were striped, spotted, and mottled. 11 Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am!’ 12 And he said, ‘Lift up your eyes and see, all the goats that mate with the flock are striped, spotted, and mottled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. 13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to me. Now arise, go out from this land and return to the land of your kindred.
Here the Angel and YHWH are identified – Angel speak to Jacob in a dream and saying He is YHWH.
I think this one is the best to see that YHWH and the Angel are two person however One person, read carefully in Hebrew is the best. God twice, than Angel once, Jacob did not say let they bless the boys Jacob said let Him bless the boys.
Genesis 48:14 And Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on the head of Manasseh, crossing his hands (for Manasseh was the firstborn). 15 And he blessed Joseph and said, “The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day, 16 the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys;
Now read this carefully and slowly 2-3 times two persons again visible and invisible, Judges 6. compare in Hebrew for best effect.
11 Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites. 12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.” 13 And Gideon said to him, “Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all his wonderful deeds that our fathers recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and given us into the hand of Midian.” 14 And the Lord[a] turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?” 15 And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.” 16 And the Lord said to him, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.” 17 And he said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me. 18 Please do not depart from here until I come to you and bring out my present and set it before you.” And he said, “I will stay till you return.”19 So Gideon went into his house and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes from an ephah of flour. The meat he put in a basket, and the broth he put in a pot, and brought them to him under the terebinth and presented them. 20 And the angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and put them on this rock, and pour the broth over them.” And he did so. 21 Then the angel of the Lord reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes. And fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of the Lord vanished from his sight. 22 Then Gideon perceived that he was the angel of the Lord. And Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord God! For now I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.” 23 But the Lord said to him, “Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die.” 24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, The Lord Is Peace. To this day it still stands at Ophrah, which belongs to the Abiezrites.
Angel of YHWH speaking to Gideon, than YHWH speaking to Gideon, Angel of YHWH accept worship meal and disappear but YHWH is still there.
We see again that the Angel-visible and the Father YHWH the invisible one which we eventually learn that the angel is also called Word in John we find out that the word is God YHWH-the visible Jesus before he was born.
Now let see the Word is YHWH – visible like the Angel of YHWH.
Genesis 15: After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.
Vision,- you actually see something, we realize that Abram actually saw YHWH,-the visible Word, now look at Samuel3:1
Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.
Remember in a vision you see things. Now verse 7 –7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. 10 And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”
19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord. 21 And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
Now Jeremiah 1: 4-10 This is even more dramatic The Visible Word touches Jeremiah
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
9 Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Now look at Daniel 7:9,13 thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat;
his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool;
his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.
13 and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.
So we know that the Son of man was in heaven before he was born, because he always existed, in order for YHWH to communicate this in Old testament was important for us later to easy accept Jesus as God, remember Israel teaching is always YHWH is One God.
There is much more in Old Testament that the first Christians studied and accepted Jesus as God, especially Jews remember they know the TORAH much better than we do.
Even Trinity is thought in the TORAH if you are interested.
I will give you this two read carefully. Gen 19:24 24 Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven. Amos 4:1111 “I overthrew some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning; yet you did not return to me,” declares the Lord.
