  1. First and foremost , this ship was DOCKSIDE. It had 5k sailors on it with cellphones. There were daily meetings with brass on the ship so everybody was already in the loop. Sailors were already sending out distress calls , and daily updates. It wasnt until things got real bad , real fast, that the captain acted with the email , to only 10 higher ups and their staff. He wasnt going to run this up the official flagpole chain of command and have it take a week for a response.

  2. Btw just so people understand what the sailors thought of the captain. When he went on a 2 trip away from the ship. He returned to find they had went out and bought a gold fish and named it “Little Chopper” and put it on his desk. It became the ships pet where the enlisted and everyone would stop by to see little chopper. Then when little chopper died they literally held a memorial service and launched little chopper off the catapult. Everyone saluted him and the ensign rang the bell 1x and announced to 5,000 people on board “Little chopper has departed the boat”. —- if a captain is not well liked or thought of the last thing they will do is go buy a surrogate captain and name him “little chopper”. Chopper being the captains call sign. He was a rare breed 0-6 officer, I think envy is what truly ended his career.

  3. True leadership requires a level of sacrifice that most people are not willing to make. It's that simple. Every single person on that ship is his or her responsibility. It's just unfortunate that his leadership decided not to make that sacrifice themselves. It shows them for who they really are. They basically lost the trust of an entire aircraft carriers personnel. How do you ask people to follow you into what could possibly be the last act of their lives if they don't believe you would do the same thing for them. I personally believe the only thing worse than losing someone under your command is losing their trust.
