I authored two books on this subject in 2010:

    (1) Walter R. Mattfeld. 2010. The Garden of Eden: Its Pre-biblical Origin in Mesopotamian Myths.

    (2) Walter R. Mattfeld. 2010. Eden's Serpent: Its Mesopotamian Origins.

These two books are illustrated and have a bibliography of earlier works by professional PhD scholars I consulted from 1855 to 2010.

Most Eden searchers on You Tube appear to be unaware that Genesis 1-11 is a polemic.

Meaning, that the Hebrews are responding to, and refuting, earlier Mesopotamian myths about the origins of mankind:

Why man was made? By Whom? Where? When? Why he does not have immortality? What is his purpose in Life? What happens to him after death? Why his Creator sought his near annihilation in a world-wide global flood?

This means that to find Eden in the pre-biblical literature one must study these Mesopotamian myths to see what it is that Genesis 1-11 is refuting!

My two books do just this, investigate the pre-biblical Mesopotamian myths about man's origins.

A quick summary of what I found in the Mesopotamian myths:

    (1) Eden is ultimately derived from Sumerian Edin, a floodplains between the Tigris and Euphrates River.

    (2) Man is created in the Edin from the Edin's clay.

    (3) Man was created to be an agricultural slave in the god's temple gardens.

    (4) Man is to present daily garden produce for the gods to eat in temple rituals, so that the gods don't starve to death.

    (5) Man does not have immortality because his god conned him into refusing to eat "the bread and water of life" offered him.
Had he eaten these items he would have had immortal life and so too mankind.

    (6) This warning was from the god E-A at Eridu, given to his servant, Adapa, telling him "Don't eat, its the bread and water of death, you will surely die!"

    (7) Adapa, upon reaching heaven, confronts Anu who instructs his two gate guards to present Adapa the "bread and water of life". Adapa (Sumerian Adaba) refuses to eat or drink, in obedience to E-A's warning, thereby losing at a chance to obtain immortality for himself and mankind.

    (8) Anu laughs at E-A's trickery in convincing Adapa not to eat, and loose out at a chance to become immortal.

    (9) Adapa returns to the Earth and Eridu, to die.

    Conclusions:

E-A's warning: "Don't eat you will die" has been recast as God's warning to Adam and Eve: "Don't eat, you will die!"

This warning was given in the Sumerian city of Eridu, 12 miles SW of Ur of the Chaldees.

One myth claims that the source of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers is the ejaculate of E-A, at Eridu. He had the lesser gods, the Igigi, with hoes dig the empty river beds of the Tigris and Euphrates at Eridu, then he ejaculates into these empty beds filling them with life-giving water. Eridu is in the floodplain of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, this floodplain being called called Edin in Sumerian.

Eden in Hebrew means "delight," whereas Edin in Sumerian is a geographical term meaning "wilderness."

So, dear viewer, there you have it, the pre-biblical location of the garden of Eden, is a recasting of a god's temple garden at Eridu (modern Iraq)

My two books (2010) go into great detail and are illustrated.
