Great question; "would you die for those you love?" I believe most in quick response would say yes, but if truly confronted with that choice I think many would not be able to follow through. Even Soldiers are not perfect in this thinking, even though many of us who wore the "boots" would say that we would give our lives for another, there were still many who would not.
Jesus loved us in the sense of the "whole of mankind". He may have loved some individually, but he did not die only for them, he died for all. The key to this is understanding that Jesus was obedient to death for people he did not have a personal relationship with (within human standards anyway); would we do the same? I highly doubt it…
