The players were mostly happy The owners encouraged it The fans obviously loved the power The health concerns were largely unfounded (obviously. Look at all the old men that abused that shit) But Bush had an illegal war to carry on So steroids became a national story
Baseball was in the tank and the steroid era saved baseball. Like it or not. They would cut into regular programming and other games when mcguire and sosa and bonds were nearing and breaking records. It was insane and hasnt been the same since.
Bonds was at least a man about it, he didn't back down to MLB, he basically told them to kiss his ass. He started doing steroids in the 1998 season, and he was leading the league in OPS already multiple times before then. He set records that will never come close to being approached, and players continued to use, and still use, and get away with it. MLB knows, but they still act like there were only a handful of players doing it when it's so obvious there were and are more.

Steroids are good for entertainment, however makes achievements worthless. I am entertained, I am not impressed.
When you take the greatest hitter who ever lived and THEN give him steroids, you end up with a 1.422 OPS
