This guy went to the same high school as me in Southern California. SoCal was a fun place to grow up in the 90s and early 2000s, but I am glad I moved to Texas almost 16 years ago and never went back.
I can see how one can get into a rut of self-medicating. There's a reason why stage performers can have incredible highs and lows. I do local theater (sometimes show after show whilst working full time) and the dopamine hits are great, even in front of 50 people for a few weekends — I have had severe depression after shows close, and I can only imagine how hard it is on the big stage. I eventually get over it after a few weeks, but it happens every time and I dread it every time.

He was depressed because he never made it far in acting, and do we care? NO.

I do the same destructive behaviors.
