  1. After supper my aunt, she got out her book and learned me about Moses and the Bulrushers, and I was in a sweat to find out all about him; but by and by she let it out that Moses had been dead a considerable long time; so then I didn't care no more about him, because I don't take no stock in dead people.

  2. For those who are not aware, this story about Moses and the magicians dueling it out in public is also told in the Muslim scripture, the Quran. There are some key differences between the two though. In the Quran, just like the old Testament, the names of the magicians are not mentioned. Not even their number. It just alludes to there being more than one magician. Second, which is the key difference in my opinion, in the Quran, when the magicians witness their serpents being swallowed up by the serpent of Moses (not Aaron, another difference), they accept the authority of Moses as a representative of God and declare their allegiance to Moses. They probably die soon after that because the Pharaoh threatens them with death and torture, but they essentially say, we don't care. One would imagine the Pharaoh carried out his threat and they had died soon after because there is no mention of the magicians beyond that point in the story. This comment is only for those who might be interested to know the other versions of this story.
