Seventh-Day Adventist: Facts & Fables with Pastor Doug Batchelor FYTube

It’s one of the fastest-growing Christian denominations in the world—the Seventh-day Adventist Church. But even as Adventists grow in influence and public awareness, especially recently, not much is known and many myths and legends about them abound. Pastor Doug Batchelor “clears the air” in this special video presentation.

  1. “THE DAY OF WORSHIP”
There are many denominations and groups in Christianity, and with out a knowledge of how to study your Bible (KJV1611) you can be easily led astray. For instance what is the “right” day to worship God? Some say we should keep the Jewish Sabbath, notice I said “JEWISH.” Now on this matter of Bible study, I don’t care what you (or I) think a verse says or what you think it means or how you interpret a topic. I believe my King James Bible is the perfect, Holy, inspired WORD of God and He does not need my help or yours saying what He means. So let’s see what the Bible says about the Sabbath.
The Sabbath was a "SIGN" (Ezek. 20:20) given to the Jews because the Jews require a SIGN (1 Cor. 1 :22). O.K. Let’s look at some more scriptures, "Wherefore the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL SHALL KEEP THE SABBATH, to observe the sabbath throughout THEIR generations. It is a SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL." (Ex. 31:16,17). The sign of the Sabbath was unknown to every man, woman and child in the book of Genesis for more than 2000 years, for it was first revealed to Moses on MT. SINAI in 1500 B.C. This explains why no one in Genesis ever kept or observed the Sabbath: Adam, Enoch, Seth, Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, etc. The Jews require a SIGN because their NATION began with SIGNS preformed by Moses (Exod. 4).
It is important to understand to whom each Book of the Bible and each verse of the Bible is written to, and when it was written and the context. Was it written to Israel as a nation or an individual Jew? Was it written to the New Testament Church or to an individual Christian? You just read above that the Sabbath was given to “the children to Israel. The first day was actually set apart as a sanctified day of rest BEFORE the Sabbath, according to Exodus 12:16, and these instructions were given to Moses and Israel BEFORE any law was revealed on Mt. Sinai. Exodu 12:15-16, “15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. 16 And in the FIRST DAY there shall be an holy convocation.” A convocation is the action of calling people together for a large formal assembly.
Christians in the New Testament do not meet on the Jewish Sabbath. They meet on the FIRST day of the week (Acts 20) and take up collection on the FIRST day of the week (1 Cor. 16:1-4) and preach the FIRST day of the week (Acts 20:7) because their Saviour rose the FIRST day of the week (Luke 24, Matt. 28) and the Holy Spirit came down the FIRST day of the week (Acts 2:1-6). Observe that the Old Testament laws on STONE (the "moral law" of the Ten Commandments) were done away with in Christ (2 Cor. 3), and the Christian's reason for observing the real moral commandment in that Ten has nothing to do with SALVATION. It has to do with good health, testimony, spiritual success, answered prayer, and peace of mind (see Gal:5; Rom:6, 7; and Eph:4, 5). Paul omits the Sabbath from them: Rom. 13:8-10. No Christian was ever saved or was ever kept saved by keeping ANY of the commandments–moral, ceremonial or otherwise (Gal. 2:16). Some of you may wonder why I chose this subject this morning, and I know I am hard on some denomination. I don’t like it when someone tries to put a Christian under bondage with their ungodly rules and regulations. You will never go wrong if you will follow Paul’s teachings to the Church

  2. As an African Adventist Baha’i, there are no adequate words to express my gratitude to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Due to my upbringing as Adventist, I revere Jesus Christ & His example of love. Also, I take healthful living seriously. Joining the Baha’i Faith’s community has only intensified my affection for the Adventist teachers who instilled in me a sense of sacred. I am the result of the message of Adventists & the example of its members. My adoration for Christ draws me towards Adventists & all Christians.

  3. Sad. SDA have a false Christ and gospel. Ellen G Wight is a false prophet just like Joseph Smith. Read what happens on the day of the Resurrection which is the first day of the week. All the disciples worship to God and were baptized in the holy Spirit. SDA teachers that this is sin but Christianity knows this is the day that God made a covenant with the gentiles!

  4. I was raised a 3rd generation SDA who taught there is only one God, the Father, and Jesus Christ his only begotten son. In 2012 the Church “took a firm stand” and adopted the trinity into their tenets. Paul tells us in 2 Tim 4:3-4 The time will come when they shall NOT ENDURE sound doctrine but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. And they shall turn their ears away from truth, and shall be turned unto fables (myths).
