The Sabbath Debate with Doug Batchelor and Steve Gregg FYTube

It’s an age old debate. Do Christians need to keep the Sabbath or is that only for Jewish people? Is Sunday the new Sabbath? What does the Bible say?

  1. The Protestant churches bear many remnants of Roman Catholic practices in their presence, to the extent that they aspire to emulate them in appearance, attire, and linguistic choices akin to those of the Roman Catholic Church. Concurrently, these Protestants criticize Roman Catholics while touting themselves as members of the great Reformation. Yet, they extol Sunday as a substitute for the original Sabbath, a Roman Catholic doctrine. Moreover, they endeavor to elucidate the unscriptural dogma of the Trinity, rooted in Roman Catholic teaching ,which is contrary to scripture as shown below.
    ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
‭‭These are merely examples of the enduring vestiges of Roman Catholic practices that persist within numerous Protestant churches even today. It is not my intention to advocate for worship on the original Sabbath day, for Jesus Christ embodies the true Sabbath, offering eternal rest to all baptized in His name. The rest He promises transcends a specific day; it pertains to the soul, not the physical body.
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Every day should be a spiritual
celebration for followers of Jesus Christ. There is no necessity for robes, clerical collars, or practices with Roman origins. If imitation is sought, let it be of the ancient Jewish customs, such as men donning prayer shawls, stemming from Jerusalem, not Rome.

  2. The Seventh-day Adventists assert their status as the true ecclesiastical body, denouncing the Roman Catholic Church as the “False “ church. While I acknowledge the pagan origins of numerous Roman Catholic doctrines, my seventh day Adventist brothering adamantly uphold their exclusive possession of doctrinal verity. As a proponent of Oneness Apostolic beliefs, I challenge such assertions, contending that the Seventh-day Adventist denomination does not hold monopoly over spiritual authenticity. In reality, all non-Catholic denominations, as inheritors of the Protestant Reformation, diverged from Roman Catholic dogma. Nevertheless, vestiges of Roman Catholic influence persist within many Protestant congregations. For instance, the Oneness Apostolic adherence to Sunday worship—derived from Roman Catholic tradition as opposed to Saturday—is emblematic of this enduring legacy. Similarly, despite positioning themselves as distinct from Roman Catholicism, the Seventh-day Adventists incorporate elements of Roman Catholic theology into their faith. Notably, their endorsement of the Trinity, a doctrine solidified at the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE, stands as an exemplar of this theological overlap. Consequently, the claim of exclusivity to truth by the Seventh-day Adventists is refuted. The true church comprises those who embrace Jesus Christ as the savior of humanity, undergo baptism in His name accompanied by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit—evidenced by speaking with new tongues , (glossolalia)—and lead lives of moral rectitude while engaging in daily worship.
