  1. Rev. 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the [GREAT CITY], which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. JESUS WAS NOT CRUCIFIED IN ROME. There is no verse in all the Bible that identifies the GREAT CITY directly with Rome or any other city.
Rev. 18:10 And saying, Alas, alas, that [GREAT CITY], that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
Rev. 17:18 And the woman (the harlot) which thou sawest is that [GREAT CITY], which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Isa. 1:21 How is the faithful city become an [HARLOT]! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

  2. In the Bible, especially the Old Testament, cities and nations were written about metaphorically as women. Cities and nations are not churches, nor, are they religions or religious systems. What John is describing is a city that rises in the tribulation under the rule of the ten kings. No matter how you twist scripture to mean something else (Hislop's theology perhaps?) it is still not the Catholic Church. I will show you the mystery of the woman – words from the angel = she is a city.

  3. The only place that came out of a wilderness and became great in a short time is the USA. Rev 18 give us an exhaustive explanation of who/what this woman is. No church was ever in the business of the merchandise of gold, and precious stones and pearls and SLAVES etc. Think about this.
