  1. Not to mention all of the cost to the environment of the feedlot waste products. Next to each feedlot is a lake of animal pee & poo. And when those overflow due to rain and flooding, all the bad stuff goes into the rivers, lakes and oceans. And if we look at fruit orchards in California – about 34 percent of the fruit picked never leaves the farm, due to the appearance of the fruit not meeting the esthetics required by the supermarkets. for example if a banana is too straight it is thrown away during the sorting process and never leaves the farm. An Orange is not round enough or has discoloration (spots), then it is thrown on the ground and left to rot. Then after we buy it – consumers/homes throw away about 33 percent of food bought. And fresh food travels over 1,500 miles from farm to table. This means the food is picked green and refrigerated, this goes to a central market and it is purchased by the supermarket. The acid level in food increases when picked green and ripen off the plant. This is a highly inefficient and unhealthy way to grow food and distribute it.
