Regarding the atonement of sin: How did wicked Nineveh receive atonement and forgiveness for their sins without a blood sacrifice?? The Hebrew Scriptures make it clear that the shedding of blood is not required for forgiveness of sins (Ezekiel 18:20-24). The righteous dying for the wicked, the shedding of innocent blood through human sacrifice as the only way to receive forgiveness from God in order to atone for your sins is a westernized, Christian Roman Catholic Church NT teaching.
So, we're supposed to just ignore Paul? All he does is echo Jesus and Jesus fulfilled the Torah. We're no longer under it. If you obey the Law of the Spirit then you will be in obedience to Him. Torah obedience returns to the physical when Jesus has called us to something much deeper, the spiritual. If you have not lust in your heart you will not commit adultery or other sexual sins. If you have not greed in your heart you will not covet your neighbor's possessions. Nothing you eat can defile you and no day that is used to honor the Lord is blasphemous for He created every day. The only circumcision we need is of the heart.
"Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please the Lord and give thanks to God." – Romans 14:6
"Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised. God gave his law through angels to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people." – Galatians 3:19
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love. – Galatians 5:1-6
