Interestingly, the Soviets sent a rover to the Moon soon after one of the US Lunar landings and the resulting footage showed the artifacts left behind by the Apollo mission. Bear in mind that this was during the Cold War and the Soviets would have made hay out of the absence of any Apollo gear left behind in order to ridicule and belittle America. Also, surveyors and the manufacturers of surveying equipment regularly use the reflectors left behind by the Apollo missions as devices for calibration of sensitive equipment. If the US never went there how can this possibly happen?
