Satanic poor little souls
Khabib said Justin hits like a Mac truck, the hardest punches he's felt.
This didn't age well
I watched the fight, and I know Khabib had enough control to choose the exact submission he took, but I think his strategy here was sound. The fact that he lost in the exact way he said he'd try to avoid isn't a sign that his strategy didn't work, its just that Khabib is the better fighter.
"If I can kick him in the leg a few times he wont be able to shoot on me, UNLESS its near the fence". He literally called it. He resisted a few takedowns/survived once taken down for a while. The takedown that lead to his loss was against the fence. Gaethe tried to circle and not let himself get boxed in, and obviously Khabibs straategy was to keep cutting off the ring. Gaethe couldn't full send laps around the cage, it takes a lot of energy to avoid the guy who has the bigger threat.
Gaethe knew this, but still allowed Khabib to get close because Khabib executed his strategy of improving his striking and making it costly for Gaethe to run in circles and stay away from the fence.
This isn't some expert level analysis I know, I just wanted to defend Gaethes strat here. He stuck to the plan, it was his best shot, and it didn't work because Khabib. "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" -> but Gaethe kept his plan. To the bitter end he was executing on his strategy
I’m betting the house on Khabib.
