4:21 – After listening to Roger explaining that moment when Syd and him were walking in LA, I think and it seems from what Roger had recounted of that particular moment, Syd was being sarcastic and trying to joke with his childhood friend about Las Vegas being nicer(throwing shade on being in LA and meaning it’s probably nicer in LV or elsewhere)…and Roger not paying attention (and being so serious) probably gave Syd a dumb look to which Syd likely got annoyed and looked down and the states “People” as his friend was supposed to “get it”.
It seems like he was just not liking being in LA and after just coming out of that meeting at the Capital Records tower and making music which what was supposed to be something fun was turning into way too serious of a thing than what he thought of it….seeing the people around him change and being so serious….while I’m not saying there wasn’t something mentally wrong, but it seemed like Syd started realizing people around him only cared themselves and what they could get from him….that’s just my take on that….and Roger saying that Syd’s sister saying not to visit as he gets angry at people and things that remind him before the band took off and getting kicked out makes sense as again all the people that he trusted especially his childhood friend Roger changed on him…..in a sense felt betrayal, that’s just my take on it, but whatever…we’re not Syd and Roger and we except a few were not there….smh
His Fathers death had a huge impact on him (very close family). Peoples mental health can be affected by all kinds of factors, it wasn't just excess LSD.
After Syd left the band he was still visiting their gigs and used to show up in the studio during Atom Heart Mother with his guitar but they ignored him. Syd after he left was still around many people, had many girlfriends and there's interviews of footages of him seeming normal. He didn't become a recluse until after 1973. No one knows if its true or not but his neighbour after he returned to Cambridge said that Syd used get rage attacks where he would scream how he wanted to kill Waters and break things and make animal noises
