I had a very similar childhood and got stuck in the juvenile system just like he did. I'm 40 years old now and I can tell you the difference between people like me and him, and the kids who never get out of the system is one simple thing: at least one decent adult cared enough to show us a different path and believed in us. But I carry a lot of guilt that I got out and other people I cared about at the time are now in prison or dead. We need more adults to step up and help these kids.

I worked as a nurse for a very short time at the Rochester NY jail he is talking about. It is archaic and as bad as he said.
