Are you familiar with the Talmud? It looks to me that they want to build the temple, and set themselves in it, as their own writings say they are their own Messiah.

Jesus was not talking to the Pharisees and Sadducees here. Jesus was a Judahite, of the Tribe of Judah. Contemporary Jews are not Israelites nor Hebrews, also in their own writings: Jewish Almanac, 1980 edition, page 3.
