The comparison of science in the modern day and religion in the old world is really interesting now that I think about it, the culture around it really is pretty similar. The thing about science is our understanding is constantly changing, so it's not unreasonable, in my opinion, to question certain conclusions, but so many people see it as the wisdom of today is absolute and any who go against it or doubt are villains and fools to be punished and ostracized. Then of course you flat earth type people that really muddy the waters, if you say "well, I don't know, corona doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as we initially feared, I think the measures we've taken are unreasonable at this point" you're equated to someone that doesn't believe in the moon landing and thinks there's a massive ice wall around the earth.
